Adult Bible Studies
 Portage Avenue Baptist Church offers a variety of teaching times and small groups throughout the week and the month.  Below are some of the major opportunities that  are available to adults of all ages in various stages of life.  There is no membership required and all adults are welcome to partake in classes. 
 
College and Career Class

When: Sunday, 9:30am-10:30am
Teachers: Pastor Jeremy Oliver and Pastor Bob Blair
 
Designed specifically for those who are from 18 to about 30 years of age, this class focuses on applying God's Word to a variety of life's circumstances common to this age group.

Current Study: This summer we will be challenging one another to deepen our relationship with Christ in a study entitled, "Christ, Our First Love."

Adult Bible Fellowship


When: Sundays, 9:30am-10:30am

Teachers: Pastor Rick Oliver and Derek Pierce


Specifically designed for those over 30 years of age. Pastor Rick Oliver and Derek Pierce lead this class by teaching biblical principles of daily life, dealing with basic discipleship issues that the average adult faces.  This promises for a good time of teaching and always enjoyable discussion. 


Current Study: Currently we are looking at the issue of "Biblical Discernment."   We live in a world where issues of right and wrong are sometimes hard to tell apart....sometimes even in the Church.  Thus this study looks at a variety of issues and looks to apply Biblical truth to help understand these issues.
 

 

Men and Women of God

(Men and Women of God Classes canceled for the summer due to other scheduled church activities.)


Meet the 1st Saturday of each month (unless otherwise announced).

Men meet from 8:00am-9:30am.

Women meet from 10:00am-11:30am.


Teacher: Pastor Rick Oliver


These studies are centered on issues that men and women each face in living a life seeking to please God and serve people.  We all struggle at times and need to be encouraged and taught how to practically approach these issues in the daily grind of life.  Join us for a time of fellowship, teaching from God's Word and discussion of the issues that are being taught. 


Women's Upcoming Study: Living a life controlled by the Fruit of the Spirit.  This class is examining the fruit of the Spirit and where each of these elements applies to the life of a Christian woman in this world.  Based off the work of long-time Christian writer Elizabeth George.


Men's Upcoming Study: The Biblical Model of being a leader.  This series looks at what it means to be a leader in the home and the church.  This study is based off the work of longtime deacon and Biblical counselor Dr. Bob Smith of Faith Baptist Church in Lafayette, IN.



Men's Accountability Group


This group looks to challenge one another to practice godliness in their lives on a daily basis.  They also get together for breakfast or a morning meeting for a challenge/encouragement specific to the needs of this group.  This session is for men looking to have a consistent walk with Christ and is led by Pastor Rick Oliver.
